Since the re-establishment of the Hayden Lake Watershed Improvement District in 2015, Pat Lund has lent his expertise and experience on the lake to realize the Improvement District’s mission: to protect and enhance the water quality and the quality of the environment within the Hayden Lake Watershed. Pat was inspired to join the Improvement District board by his wife, Gloria, who was a part of the Hayden Lake Watershed Association since its earliest days.
Years of Service
For over a decade, Pat and Gloria worked with these organizations to protect the beauty and integrity of Pat’s ancestral stomping grounds. There, his grandfather first settled in 1927. This is where Pat passed his summers as a boy. It’s where he and Gloria summered with their children and grandchildren, and where, in 2000, they took up year-round residence in their lake home. This is their legacy. In the words of Todd Walker, the Hayden Lake Lake Manager, “Any time there was a need, he would step in. He knows the lake better than any of us.”
In October (2020), Pat exchanged his HLWID Board Member position for a seat with a better view. Gloria stepped back from her Association work just ten months previously. Looking forward, they will continue to lend their expertise and experience when called upon – from the peace of their lakeside home. And, together, they will watch the lake water ebb and flow with the seasons, families play in the cold and clarity of the lake, and the new Improvement District and Association leadership do their part to care for the lake.
Welcome Kristine Bartz
With Pat’s departure, we welcome Kristine Bartz into the third HLWID Board Member position. Kristine, born and raised in Montana, was first introduced to Hayden Lake in 1987. Visiting and vacationing here frequently, her love for Hayden Lake grew, and after 20 years, she became a year-round resident. Kristine shares the Board’s passion for protecting the watershed. She sees the Lake’s growth in popularity as the Kootenai County population grows. Kristine, therefore, has a vision for planning and management to protect our water quality. Her background is in Chemistry and Instructional Design.
